blackbird2150 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 i got a new 4400+ X2 processor yesterday (came in the mail) and so i thought that i would just do something simple and take out my 3200 vencie and just pop this one in. So i did all that and then reinstalled windows completely, pretty much losing all my data. which i can live with. However, like i said i had a problem. My computer brings up a blue screen, (quite frequently) and just restarts, now i dont have time to read the screen b/c it just flashes and restarts. once the computer reboots. I get this "System recovered from a serious error message" and so i click send, to get more information. The message it says is "Device Driver Error" now i don't have a clue what htat could be. I have updated my video card drivers. haven't gotten to the rest just yet. the other day i flashed my bios with winflash and then my computer wouldn't boot. i got passed that problem (i think) and now i am wondering if its possible if this could still be the same problem. if not, then does anyone have any thoughts as to how to narrow down the problem? thanks. STJ Edit 1: I also realized that i have not installed the drivers for my tv tuner yet. could that be causing all these problems? Edit 2: Sorry I forgot to put my System Specs in my Sig, it has been updated, but here they are: DFI lanparty nf4 SLI mobo AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2x OCZ Performance series 512 dual channel Aspire 500 W PSU 7800gt EVGA 256 mb PCI-Ex16 TurtleBeach Sound card Western Digital 250 Sata Seagate 200 IDE NEC DVD+/-RW WinTV Pro TV Tuner card
madu Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I don't think that bios would have anythig to do with a BSOD.. is your memory OC'ed? it is recommended that you have everything at stock when you install Windows..
nailzs Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Did you install the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer? If not go here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Techni...1_13118,00.html
blackbird2150 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 No i hadn't installed the optimizer... but would that really stop the problem of the driver issue? and thats what i thought about the bios, i just thought i would throw it out there b/c i wasn't sure and its all happened in the last 24 hours. lowboy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Have you run memtest?
blackbird2150 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 No i haven't, Should i? and what would that show me?
lowboy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Yes for sure as memory will throw up all kinds of errors. Run 10passes of tests #5 if passes run full tests for 20 passes. When changing CPUs you should run memtest before ANY OS install as if won't pass memtest you will load a corrupt OS and have to reinstall OS. blackbird2150 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I'll try that when i get home, thanks for your help. and i'm assuming i want the memory to pass all the tests. And i have a question about this. So replacing my CPU, can 'damage' my ram? how does that work. if everything worked perfect before, how does the ram get damaged? lowboy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 AMD uses on die memory controller(in cpu) so you have changed the memory controller and no two are the same. And yes you want to pass all test one at a time. If fail memtest adjust settings until you can then move to OCCT and so on. Good Luck. affebaffe Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 To read the message on the screen when you get BSOD go to "Control Panel"->"System"->"Advanced". Click on "Settings" in "Startup and Recovery" and remove mark from "Automatically restart"
