510kut Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 So I'm lookin to upgrade again since x2 prices have dropped. Gonna get a 4200+. I want to pair it with some new ram. I was wondering if the gold and platinum are similarly priced would there be any benefit in going with the gold? I'm pretty much trying to decide between OCZ5002048ELGEGXT-K and OCZP5002GXTC-K. Unless anyone has other good suggestions.
Guest Retratserif Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Not to much difference in them in stats. Most people only get around 260 FSB @ 1:1 with either of them. I have the OCZ5002048ELGEGXT-K. The do 265 @ 1:1 so far. I didnt test past that. I just can hold the CPU stable at 265x11@1:1. I got the god purely due to more people being satified with them. The other pair do have lower timings, at stock, but you will be tweaking them since you are going to OC'ing any how. Your choice really man. I wouldnt think that you will be seing a huge difference. Gold is cheaper atm with rebate. I got mine.
21Motorcraft Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Both are on the recommended list and there are many people around here using plats....This is something from the Ocz website you may want to consider for your decision.... From http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/spec...ation_help.html Q: What is the difference between the Gold and Platinum Series? A: The Gold series of memory modules are specially designed to be run at high frequencies using HyperSpeed® Technology. As a result of these high frequency optimizations, the memory may not be able to run at lower timing settings than specified in the specs for each product. Additionally, the Gold series is specifically designed to be used with Intel i865 and i875 chipset based motherboards. The Gold series can also work with AMD based motherboards, but you should check our Motherboard Qualification Guide for specific compatibilities. Finally, the Gold series comes with a copper heat spreader that has a reflective metallic gold finish. The Platinum series of memory modules are designed to be run at very low timings on both Intel and AMD based motherboards. For a complete list of compatible motherboards please check our Motherboard Qualification Guide. Each Platinum Series module comes with a copper heat spreader that has a reflective metallic platinum finish.
