Terminal123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 please help! Ok, i'm getting frustrated with DFI's RMA. I got a board originally from newegg, worked great, except sata 1 and 2 controller went out, and wont work anymore..so i ask for a replacement, they send one to me, and it wont post, bad ram slots on that one, so i send that back and they send me another one....this one WONT even turn on at ALL! put all my components back into my motherboard where sata 1 and 2 dont work, and it all works dandy again except for sata 1 and 2 of course. Any suggestions to try on the board that wont even turn on? the 2 LEDS that come on when u plug in power to it(one near ram, and one near pci slots) comes on..but yet when i press the power button on it, nothing happens I'm starting to think i'm just a tester to see if broken boards are really broken, and am VERY unhappy about this. Terminal123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I can install windows fine on SATA 1 and 2, however when i go to boot up, it always blue screens of death, however if i change my HD to sata 3-4 it works ( no blue screen of death), tried with a 250gb sata and a 74gb sata WD, so i got an RMA, first board back the ram slots were bad, so i requested a replacement for the replacement, and at first it wouldnt turn on, but after moving it around and unconnecting everything from it a few times, leaving it off for a bit, it now turns on, However, i'm in the same dillema as the firsst one...My HD's will boot on sata 3 and 4..but not sata 1 and 2... I'm going to play Dr. Phil for a second . When a lady comes on his show and asks him, "Why does every marriage I have fail?" he asks her "What is the common denominator? Is it every guy or is it you?" Have you considered the possibility that you have faulty hardware elseware? The common denominator is not the different boards but perhaps the same hardware you plug into those differnet boards. This is just my speculation but it is quite possible that another peice of hardware such as your X2 or something might have problems. I've spent 100s before on what I thought was "something else" only to realize it was the very thing I thought I'd ruled out. Granted, that was when I was more inexperienced... But anyway... just consider every possibility. If it truly is 3 faulty boards in a row... then I'm really sorry man. At least you're not me . I've spent nearly 2,000 dollars due to broken parts in probably the last year and my bank account is nearing it's death! haha. Terminal123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Clean install, have tried Slipstreamed DVD's, regular CD's with the sata drivers that came with either motherboard The wierd thing is this ONE install of windows i have on a 250gb WD sata, Works fine...but no other install on my other WD satas will work..and i have no other brands to try..is there a known issue with WD sata or something? I've built a computer for a friend a while back with a raptor 74gb and same motherboard, and yet it worked fine.

Terminal123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Have tried that as well, What i just noticed is, my one install on a 250gb wd hd, that works, when its in windows (and its on sata 1) it can see sata 3 and 4(the 74gb and 400gb) however, when i boot up off sata 3 (the 74gb) it can no longer see sata 1 and 2 but can see sata 4 even if i can get the raptor or any other drive on sata 3 or 4 to see the drives on sata 1 and 2 (bios does) i will be happy, any ideas? Terminal123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 The drive that actually DOES work on sata 1 and 2 with that ONE windows install(any other install on that drive or any other drive, doesnt work on sata 1 and 2) CAN see sata 3 and 4 drives...however I DONT WANT that as the primary drive, i want the 74gb raptor as the main one..however when i boot it up, it can see the 400gb, but not the 250gb that is on sata
Guest Kobalt Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 How about you enable SMART in BIOS, and stick a 2 sec delay for the HDs. Also, are these SATA 1 or 2 drives? I had a problem of my board not finding the SATA drives, but that amnesia went away. (search amnesia if you want to find the post)
Terminal123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 not sure what the 400gb is, the 250gb is suppose to be sata II, not sure if it really is or not...not sure what the raptor 74gb is (got it when it first came out, so im guessing sata I) And i'll try that will let u know what result is...but wierd thing is, bios sees em all..just windows doesnt
