Ipecac Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I've been having a host of odd problems that I'm beginning to think are due to a mobo problem of some sort. I'm wondering if this might be yet another symptom of the problem. I get momentary screen blackouts. If, for example, I right click on a wmv file in order to select 'open', the screen momentarily blacks out (as in the monitor goes into standby, usually meaning that no video is outputting from the vid card.) before coming back on with the r-click menu up. Same thing happens if I left click on the nvidia desktop manager icon in my system tray. It also happens a few times while Windows is loading up. So, it only does this blackout thing for a second, and only when the computer is "doing something," but it's still an unusual behavior that I've never seen before. Could this be related to a power problem within the mobo? Or maybe a problem with the PCI-E slot?
Blaise Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Posting what PSU you are currently running in that rig may help somebody determine if you are having a power problem or not.
lowboy Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Have you verified system stability by running memtest,OCCT and prime. Correct your sig with psu before posting again.
Ipecac Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Sorry guys. I'm running both an Antec NeoHE 550W PSU and the Thermaltake 250W PSU for Graphics Cards. I've replaced PSUs a number of times and have determined beyond a shadow of a doubt that the PSU is not to blame for any issues. lowboy Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Didn't think it was PSU but nice to know anyway.Have you run tests posted above?
tasr Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Do what Lowboy suggested a test your memory or rig for stability? Enabling MemTest86+ in the BIOS and run test #5 and #8 for 5-10 passes. Then you can run all tests over night. Then run Prime95 overnight. I run prime a minimum of 8hr. Setting up CPU for Dual Prime95 stability testing. This will test both CPU and memory. Also check the Dual Core Optimizer and the other dual core driver update here. Ipecac Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I'll run the tests tonight and come back with the results. Thanks for the input guys.
