Second PSU Failure with nF4 SLI-DR Expert

Recommended Posts

I'm really in trouble with my LP UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert mobo. My first (DFI recommended) PSU (an Enermax All-in-One FMA 535W EG565P-VE) caught fire in the very first two hours of mobo operation, the PSU was new as well. Now my second PSU, same model (warranty works!), has stopped working afwer a whole week of operation, now when I turn on the mobo power button the two PSU fans slowly start to function and then stop. The mobo was removed from the case for testing purpose, and only keyboard, one DDR module, processor, GPU, and power cables are attached to the mobo. I'm suspecting of the DFI mobo, but I don't know how to test it without spending more $200,00 with another PSU (I have to import another one). I'm thinking of using DFI's RMA service. Any ideas? Any one with the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Have you done any mods like 7v mod for fans? Were you powering big fans through the mobo fan headers? Is your wiring neat and away from sharp edges?

When you do get a new PSU assemble the system on a bench and recheck everything before installing into the case, making sure there are no extra stand-offs or missing ones.

I'm really in trouble with my LP UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert mobo.

If both of the units powered the motherboard for any lenght of time, the odds of it being the motherboard are slim and none.

If you had a dead short or something the PSU would never start.

I agree a full contact short would most likely trip the PSU, but a intermittent short, like a slight gouge in a wire barely shorting/grounding or only momentarily touching could give similar issues.

I think of it being similar to a audio amp, if you barely touch the two leads with one strand you can still make out music, but badly distorted. On the other hand, twisting the two leads together causing a full blown short will usually kill all sound.

Well, now my second Enermax psu is dead, I'm trying to figure out what originate this problem again. When I turn on the mobo switch power button only the psu fans start functioning (not cpu or chipset fans) for miserable 3 seconds.

How do I know? Maybe because I've lost power (suddenly shutdown) while reading emais? Or because the psu can't turn on the motherboard after that? Or because I've successfully tested my DFI system with another non-recommended psu? Or because I've unsuccessfully tested the faulty psu in another non-DFI system?

This information in first post would have been good:because I've successfully tested my DFI system with another non-recommended psu?

I have the same psu with no problems but my son got one and went bad within 2weels. Good luck

So you are saying that your experience with this psu with DFI motherboards is 50% (one faulty, one ok). My experience is 0%. Not a good score for Enermax or DFI (I don't know who or what caused the problem), although our statistics is poor. I'm thinking of why this Enermax model is still recommended in this site! I would like to say that I was following closely (real time) the nobreak (usb) and psu (everest) input/output graphics and everything was fine (with or without system load, no fluctuations at all) until both psu suddenly die.
