chobin Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Im so unlucky....i thought i knew all about this card....except discovering a damn 8 pin connector. of course my PSU doesn't have a native 8 pi connector, so im using the four PIn as stated in the manual. so actually i vahe all the power connections (the floppy connector is plugged) but 4 pin instead of 8.....is there any adaptor i could use or i have to change the PSU (forget it...)? davidk21770 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 My enermax noisetaker 600w has the 8 pin? Maybe I have a later version. BUT, I'd use the adapter -- or consider upgrading to a PSU with native 8pin (much better). They went to an 8pin because the MB needed more power and this gave them cleaner voltage at higher current (less pins == less current handling capability without voltage variations). As you push the power up by OCing and with big graphics cards, you push up the current needed by the MB. The people who get away with the 4pin solutions are either lucky or don't have the heavy current use cards, OC, or apps. Noisetaker definitely has the 8-pin. It has a blue/yellow wire among others and comes with a tie, just for that line.
chobin Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 guys, you are talking about the Noistaker II 600W. I have the Noisetaker 600W (first version, bought last august) and it comes only with the 4 pin connector...
RubberDuck Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I have the same PSU as you do ( exact same one ) and I have the 8pin connector. Mine also came with a 8 pin to 4 pin adapter.

Guest Retratserif Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 As stated above the ealier NoiseTaker has no 8 pin and the Rev NoiseTaker and the NoiseTakerII does. I had the II for about a week, but it would not boot my Expert mobo. RMA'ed both and get a OCZ GamerXstream 700watt and a New Mobo. I have no problems. chobin Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 well....i have finally managed to startup my mobo...with a 30 min test with OCCT without a problem....and without an 8 pin connector....
ISSA2000 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 well....i have finally managed to startup my mobo...with a 30 min test with OCCT without a problem....and without an 8 pin connector.... ha - look at my system, no- is not heavly loaded with all of thoes hdds and burners, etc. 160w cpu overclock. eetc... a good psu is needed (8pin a bonus) but you dont need a 8pin p4 power, or even the extra floppy power connector... even when clocking.. it depends on you system parts... and how good your psu is.... my system is heavy loaded (now with quatro sl tv card) and is fully stably at over clocked speeds, i just cant use the 3rd pci slot (it shares irq with the system)... still to add water cooling.... and yes p.s. every one recommends a eps 12pin p4 connector and 4pin floppy power to be hooked up for stability. but my ststems does not.. every usb/firewire port etc... is being used.. thefabe Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I wish you the best of luck but with you running in SLI and 2 hard drives, 3 fans, a water pump ect, if you have any system instability issues then I would suggest getting a psu with a native 8 pin eps simply because if a 4 pin was enough they would have built the board with only a four pin. But like I said if you aren't having any instability issues more power to ya.
chobin Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 eheh fellas, don't misunderstand me.....i've been using DFI for more than a year now, and i perfectly know the need of all power connectors plugged. but since i bought this rig after burning up a NF4 SLI-DR (last saturday).....at the moment i don't have the money to buy a new PSU only for an 8 pin connector.....i will spend my 7 bucks for an adapter....if i will have some instability.....i will know what to do... :D
