Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Hi Guys, I purchased a new Athlon X2 4400+ on friday to upgrade from my existing 3000+. When I put it in my PC it will not boot (or do anything actually, it is as though the power button is disconnected). Using the button on the motherboard is no different. I took the CPU back today thinking it was faulty, but it worked fine when they tested it in the shop, so now I am thinking it must be some strange motherboard/CPU issue. When up put the 3000 back in all is fine. Any ideas? Thanks!
lowboy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 What do you mean by do nothing. No pwr indicator or leds or what more information is needed.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Absolutely nothing, like the button was never pressed, no fans spin, no diagnostic leds, no beeps... The led's indicating power are on, but that is it.
CPDMF Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Stupid question, but you did clear the CMOS before powering up with the new CPU correct?
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Stupid question, but you did clear the CMOS before powering up with the new CPU correct? I have switched back and forth a few times, and didn't reset it every time, but I have definately done so on at least 2 occasions before putting the new CPU in. CPDMF Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Unplug the PSU and give it a 20 minute clear while you install your CPU and HS. If you have access to a PS2 keyboard plug that in and hold the insert key down while you hit the power button.

Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Done both the above and still nothing.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Not sure if this is relevant, but the DRAM Power LED is not on, it blinks very quickly when I switch the power on, but remains off. The standby power led blinks once when connected and stays on.
lowboy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Do the overnight clear as I posted above and follow it exactly. If no joy ,test the cpu.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 OK, will do, thanks.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I have done the above and still nothing. Anyone got a suggestion? I have unplugged pretty much everything from the mobo, all that is connected is the 4 power connectors, CPU/HSF, a single memory module, video card, and the case leds/buttons.
