Dvd burner Causing slow boots

Recommended Posts

Alright I did a search on problems with having a slow windows bootup(hangs for 1 min at windows logo.. blue bar going past), but didn't really help me out except for one guy saying to disconnect the IDE from the dvd burner which really help speed up the windows bootup. Now does anyone know how to fix this so i can keep the dvd burner connected and still keep a fast bootup?.

Specs are:

opteron 165 @ 2.7ghz (slow bootup at stock speeds)

Audigy 2

Sata2 wd 250gb 16mb cache

DFI NF4

Geforce 7600GT

Pioneer DVR-108

Enermax 530w PSU

System is 24 hour prime stable. using windows drivers for ide controller. I had stability problems with nforce ide drivers, the dvd burner wouldnt complete a burn without errors. Using nforce 6.86 drivers. Using 84.21 forceware drivers. latest audigy 2 drivers. Using 1.18 for my dvr-108. winxp sp2. I built this comp back in March but the slow boot is starting to annoy me more and more. My old computer with nforce2 boot up fast than this comp.

oh and using april 06 bios.. not sure what one that is

Similar problem here, except it's slow at verifying DMI Pool Data, and it is fine if I unplug the burner. I get the exact problem you described, when I boot with a disk in the burner. I think it's having a hard time reading the media. My system is 12+hours dual prime stable.

My burner is an Asus DRW-1608P, which is based on the Pioneer DVR-109.

I have new cables, thanks to H_G, but my burner won't recognize DVD-RWs and will burn 16x DVD-Rs only at 4x, using genuine TY media.

I think my problem is the burner, it's burnt over 500 disks in the last year. I would try using a different burner, but I don't have one atm, I would suggest the same to you.

yea for the price of a new burner it's not a big loss haha.. but it seems to burn everything just fine.. some dvd are hard to read but not sure if it's a hardware problem or not.
