wanksta Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 (edited) since my ram's stock frequency is 166 and i overclocked my cpu to a 200 fbs, isn't the ram sync off? therefore, wouldn't it preform better when the cpu is not overclocked and running with sync with the ram (166 and 333)? since that seemed logical i overclocked my ram from 166 to 200, does this take care of all the sync problems? or is the hardware of the ram set a a specific frequency, so ocing wouldn't really fix the sync problem? look below for the specs. LobbDogg Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 It is best to run your RAM in sync with the processor, you have some decent RAM that should be able to handle a bit of an overclock. But if you can't, reduce the ratio down to about 80% or whatever will get you the most stable at those speeds.
FanATIc205 Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 it doesnt hurt to run it like that i ran mine for awhile till i got 3200ram. it doesnt hurt if you run the fsb faster than the ram but you dont want to run the fsb slower than the ram . ie 166fsb and 200mem speeds is fine 200fsb and 166mem hurts performance . in real world games you wont notice much of a diff . i was let down when i went to 200/200 synced i thought it would see a big jump but i didnt only in benchmarks
wanksta Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 i was let down when i went to 200/200 synced i thought it would see a big jump but i didnt only in benchmarks wait... so u didn't see a big jump? cuz that i what i am running at right now is there a physical hardware difference between pc 3200 and pc 2700 or are they both the same? FanATIc205 Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 the only diff is bandwidth from the extra speed . if your a benchmark whore that wants a big intraweb penis from benchmarks youll like the boost to the 3200+ but in real world games i could not perceive a diff at all so i would say save your cash for something better. alot of people think they have to run it synced but you dont. now im sure if you time the loading of maps and stuff youll notice a few secs diff but nothing worth the money spent to get that extra 2 sec load time if you overclocked your ram and its running 200mhz or ddr400 then no you wont see a bit of diff since your running it at pc3200 speeds theres no diff at all . the first marketed ddr3200 was just good pc2700ram that ran 3200 speeds stable theres no physical diff between pc2100 pc2700 pc 3200 and so on . the numbers is the max capable memory bandwidth you could acheive with the mem at the stated speed i misunderstood your first posti though you were running the fsb at 200 ddr400 and the memory at 166 or 333ddr
