at 2.75 right now, i doubt if the x2 will go higher than that, not to mention these price drops are permanent, i'd say you'd be better off upgrading elsewhere.

this is the PERFECT time to go X2 honestly

Opteron dual core cpu's will not drop much in price if at all

X2's are excellent for the money (the 3800+ and 4200+ and 4400+ are excellent deals @ under $250 and the 3800+ is only $154 at newegg)

This is the time right as platforms are changing (AM2 for AMD) and Intel's new cpu is coming out (Conroe).

Deals are to be had, and there's simply no reason to not move to a dual core cpu....especially an X2 as they are all good, they will all overclock pretty nicely (maybe not like an Opteron will but so what, they are half the price of an Opteron usually)

ps: they are better for gaming now than single core cpu's as most games are taking advantage of both cores

What HG said. Unless you going to spring for an Intel Core2 Duo, then the X2's are awesome deals, especially the X2 4400 with 2x1MB L2. AMD will not be making them for the AM2, but the X2 4400 is priced the smilarly rated Core2 Duo cpu. Mighty damn tempting !

Looky looky, a ADA4800CDBOX for $309 plus shipping and tax. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009RKLQ...791829?n=172282

The only problem that processor faheyd is it's coming from tigerdirect and says it will take 1-2 weeks to ship. If you go directly to tigerdirect they don't even list it on their site.

definitely go x2. the 939 platform has been around for a few years and has matured quite nicely. am2 and conroe will both have their bugs to work through, so take advantage of the amazing x2 prices! dual/multi core is the way of the future, so, might as well!
