nF4 Ultra-D not working w/ XP Pro X64...?

Recommended Posts

Well I wanted to try out XP Pro x64 (120 days free on MS) and for some reason, once everything is done being installed, after the "Windows XP x64 Edition" loading screen is done, a BSOD flashes, then the computer restarts...why is this? I went back to XP Pro 32-bit, but I can't (re)-activate anymore, so I'm gonna try out XP x64 for a while...what should I do to fix this problem? Would a different BIOS fix it?

It's all on stock settings, and the memory is at 2-3-3-6 1T, I also tried out 2.5-3-3-6 and 3-4-4-9 all 1T, and still BSOD and restart...and I'm frustrated and stressed out...!!!

The exact same XP Pro x64 worked on my Jetway 939Gt4-SLI motherboard with exact same specs flawlessly, no BSOD at all...

No, your BIOS is ok.

It is quite normal, that you get these endless reboots at the end of the install, when you try to install Windows XP x64 onto an nForce Raid array by using the F6/floppy method. This behavior is due to the fact, that the XPx64 setup routine does not trust the actual nForce SataRaid drivers, because they are not correctly digitally signed (WHQL certified). During the GUIMODE part of the installation the XPx64 setup installs the wrong MS Standard IDE drivers. Bad consequence: BSOD and endless reboots.

You have 2 options to get XP x64 installed:

A) F6/floppy method:

Download the old 64-bit nForce chipset package v. 6.56 from here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1068

and copy the files from the IDEWinXP folder onto an empty floppy. Then do the F6/floppy method. After the successful install of the OS you can update the nForce SataRaid drivers.

B) Slipstream method:

Will I still be able to overclock well on x64, as I've heard some people getting different results on different OS's...
You should install the OS with default BIOS settings, because XPx64 setup is very sensitive.

After the successful install you may test overclocking your system, but certainly not so extreme as with XP.

XP 64 is just as overclock friendly as 32 bit. Check my OC database entry below my sig. That was done in the evaluation version of XP64.

Far Cry 64 runs good, the 64 bit patch for UT2004 is OK but I didn't notice any difference from 32 with it.

One thing to remember when slipstreaming the raid drivers when it comes time to select the drivers in nlite hold down the shift key while you select so it highlites both drivers otherwise it will not integrate both drivers.
