ruler Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I just replaced my epox motherboard which died with a new DFI board. I first put in the basic components needed to POST (cpu/ram/videocard) and it post. So i go in bios move around a little bit with my keyboard everything is good to go. So now i put the rest of my components (HD/CDROM ect...). I turn it on it POST again but now the keyboard which is a Logitech Elite USB keyboard which i have connected to the PS2 port through an adapter does'nt work anymore . It seems like there is no power going to the keyboard. So i try using usb to connect the keyboard. The LED lights on keyboard light up so know its getting power but now there is a huge lag between key pressed (5-15 sec. before something happens). Funny part is that if i let it boot up to windows setup or windows the keyboard which is connected to the USB works fine and so does the usb mouse. Just when I use the USB keyboard to change BIOS settings lag is horrible. So I spend 8mins (no joke) just to change the BIOS setting to enable USB/Mouse keyboard support. Now it even lags in windows lol. I also tried changing the USB power to 5VSB still no go. I tried to run the board with just the basic components again and the keyboard still really laggy. I suspect something with the BIOS so i was able to upgrade the bios by booting to windows to the newest BIOS on the DFI website. Still no go . Im about to give up and RMA this board. I searched the forums and this seems to be a common problem that happen to a few people. None of the threads i read except one had was able to rectify the problem. And i tried the thing he did which was to take the motherboard out of the case and run it on top of a antistatic bag. Does anyone know if anything else I can try? Ill give it till monday before I just RMA the board back to newegg. Thanks in advance.
Guest laydback Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Are you really willing to RMA a good board because of a keyboard issue? Have you even tried a different keyboard?
Wild Thing Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Did you enable usb keyboard and mouse in bios?
ruler Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Yeh i tried 2 diffrent keyboards. Im using one of the keyboards right now to type this reply. So i know it's not the keyboards. I enabled keyboard/mouse usb in BIOS but the problem gets worse because then the keyboard lags also in windows. This isnt a small problem since it so painfully slow to change any setting in BIOS it would be unpractical to tweak/OC my computer. Wild Thing Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 If you aren't using the usb keyboard in a usb slot do not enable usb keyboard in bios
Rebelranger Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 This might sound like nonsense. But I had problems with my keyboard and took it back and it was still somewhat acting up. I cleared the CMS by moving the jumper, disconnecting the PSU and removing the battery. Then put it all back and no problems. Don't know why it happened but its ok now. Have you tried clearing the CMOS?
Guest GripS Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I have found when i enable USB mouse support in the BIOS my USB mouse fails to work(Logitech MX518). Only thing i have enabled is USB keyboard support(SAITEK gamer). My mouse works in the USB port without enabling it in the bios. Both my keyboard and mouse are hooked up via USB. When i set up this system and installed windows i used a standard PS/2 keyboard as recommended here. I did not switch any jumper on the motherboard so they are in their default locations. Rebelranger Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Yep I had to use the PS/2 for setup as well. But somehow the USB was really slow after I got my inital setup. But clearing the CMOS for some reason fixed the issue.
