johndh Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Personally quite fond of Samsung Spinpoint drives - I have an ATA 160GB model and a SATA II 80GB model and both are impressively quiet (Very picky about noise). I've read very good things about Seagates, however, so my next drive will probably be one of those. I've also owned an incredibly irritating WD: it made a screachy/whiny sound that racked at my brain; and a Maxtor 80GB which seems all fair and reasonable, although the first one died on me after about 3 months of usage. AsAs1n8eR Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 My favourite is Samsung cause it is silent and Hitachi cause it has good speeds when in RAID 0 with 4 drives.
Kaxx Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Right now, I'd have to vote for WD because that's mostly what I use. I've got 8 of them, a couple 20 giggers, a 5 gig, a 10 gig, a 60 gig, a couple 160 gigs, and a 120 gig. I bought the 20 giggers, 5 gig, 10 gig, and 60 gig off Ebay used. They are old and all have failed but the 5 gig because I can't use it. The rest are all running great so far. I've also had a Maxtor 40 gig and a Maxtor 60 gig. Both served me well until I sold them. I've got a Seagate 320 gig on the way, I've heard good things about them so I'll see how it goes. I don't know what I'm gonna do with all of these drives and only 3 functioning computers.........anyone want any dead hard drives???? techman62 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Maxtor for me. I've always used them. Never had any problems. I have 2x 200GB Sata's in my rig (raid o). Also have an 120GB Seagate external for backup.
radodrill Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I'm sticking W/ WD; have bought at least 5 over the years and not one of them has failed. A bit off-topic: Seagate is for porn Let's face it, we're not changing the world. We're building a product that helps people buy more crap - and watch porn. Check out the story here.
