Prostock62 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Has any of you with the 7800GT CO used or tried the volt mod or Pencil mod on there 7800GT? Ive been reading up on it and did the pencil mod to my 7800GT and it raised my clock to 488 core and 1.3V memory.A fairly good increase. michaelzhao Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 This is probably a stupid question, but will I get the same affect if I just bumped up the PCI-e voltage in the DFI mobo BIOS?
soundx98 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 ProStock62, I used the NiBiToR program from MVKtech to change my card. Very easy to do http://www.mvktech.net/content/view/2069/37/1/0/

DarkStar02 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Can you use that program to mod a 7900gt?
Guest YuKoN Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 7800GT= bios voltmod. Â 7900GT= conductive pen voltmod. Â there's many posts regarding this- both on this forum and google. search is your friend!
DarkStar02 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I've seen the voltmod many times, I was just wondering if I could do it without using conductive ink.
Voltes-5 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Prostock, you mean to say you did the memory pencil mod right? Well I did the bios mod and pencil memory mod, got voltages to 1.50/2.22. Results, 505/1220. Game and 3dmark stable. It can get the memory to 1300 but it will not pass 3dmark '01-'06 loop. Â Darkstar, using the conductive pen mod and pencil mod is the safest IMO on the 7900GT. The thread is under Vid card.
Guest YuKoN Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I've seen the voltmod many times, I was just wondering if I could do it without using conductive ink. Â The way I read you- you were hoping to bios voltmod the 7900. This isn't possible. The way I read Voltes-5- I agree the Conductive Ink Mod and/or the mem pencil mod are the safest way. Other methods involve removal and/or replacement of resistors and a bunch of soldering. Not a good idea, considering the ease of removal with the conductive ink, and it will leave no trace when removed. Boils down to either "tempoarily" mod your card- or "permanently" mod the card. Â Both Voltes and I have done the Ink/pencil mods to our cards- mines 1.55vgpu and 2.15vmem, and it'll do 700/1800 easily with proper cooling(mines VF900CU). I still keep it at 685/1750 just to be safe and sane. These cards are good overclockers if you don't overdo it. Â Good Luck! A6437 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 The Bios Volt Mod worked perfectly for both of my cards i flashed it a few times cus i was messing with the Delta settings and then i got it to work good and it gave me a hefty boost in performance. But it is very easy there is a guide in this forum not. If u want just tell me what you want the Stock clocks to be or PM and i'll edit the bios and upload it here. Voltes-5 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Prostock, there is no conductive pen mod on the 7800GT. Its only for the 7900GT's. Unless I keep missing it and not looking good on the VR Zone and Xtreme forums. Its either a resistor mod or bios mod on the vgpu and you already got the pencil mod on the memory.
