Spazilton Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Had this motherboard since last November, and besides the slow shutdown problem it has worked fine. I go to turn on my computer last night and I get the normal initial start up screen. Then the board just locks up. It is stuck on the VGA Detect LED. The screen goes blank with and does not proceed to boot. I have tried a 12 hr reset on the bios, Swapped video cards in both slots, Processors, Ram, everything. My wifes system is almost identical to mine and she has the same motherboard. I swapped all the components into her computer 1 by 1 and they all work fine. Nothing I have tried has worked. Is there anything else I havent tried that I should before I request to RMA this motherboard?

Done the 12hr cmos clear as shown here on forum and still same 3leds.Tried gfx card in both slots and tested in another comp and is good. If so maybe RMA time. tasr Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 How was your rigs stability before? Did you test your memory with memtest and your CPU with Prime95? Enabling MemTest86+ in the BIOS and run test #5 and #8 for 5-10 passes. Then you can run all tests over night. Then run Prime95 overnight. I run prime a minimum of 8hr. Setting up CPU for Dual Prime95 stability testing. My point is recheck your stability.

Setting up CPU for Dual Prime95 stability testing. My point is recheck your stability. Before this happened, CPU had passed 48hours of Small FFT Dual Prime at 2.9. Memory had passed 24 Hours of Memtest All tests (Around 15-20 passes). The system was stable as a rock. As it stands right now I cannot enter the bios to change any settings. I get the splash screen, all the diag LEDs go out except for the last one (VGA Detect), then I get a black screen saying VGA mode not supported. The board then locks in this state. Yes the video card has been tested in both slots, so has another video card in both slots. I have also tried a PCI video card to no avail. Both of these video cards work fine in either slot on another Expert. All other components test out fine in another Expert (My Wifes) I have removed the battery and left it on CMOS clear for over 12 hours with no change. I am quite frankly out of ideas. Spazilton Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Ok I guess question is now, where is a link for the RMA process. Or where can I get it started. I really don't want to do it over the phone.
cellyboo Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 wait, AFAIK, 3 leds means memory problem, not vga you should try a different memory first
Spazilton Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 3 of the LEDs are out, not lit. The memory tested fine in another Expert. Its not a problem with any of the other components as ALL of them have been switched over to another Expert and work just fine. I can't think of anything else, and from what I gather these forums are the only way you can get RMA repairs in the US.
Spazilton Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Well finally just got my board back from RMA today. After 2 weeks nothing was fixed. Exact same problem. I got back the exact same board un repaired. Im at a total loss here. I am 100% sure it is a faulty motherboard. Why in the hell did it come back to me unrepaired. mazda_626 Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 frekin IE7 Beta, this is the third time i'm trying to reply i get a similar problem with the one red LED not going out causing the system to not boot when i overclock too far, especially with the ram. try one card of ram in each slot, then try the other card. incase there is a device cuaseing problems, remove everything off the mobo except for power (leave all three connected), CPU and one card of ram. even remove the VGA card. is it possible the PSU is faulty?
