jfazzie Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Hi All Firstly, I'd like to say how excellent this forum is and its helped me no end. I've been having several problems since I decided to do several things to my setup following 3months of painfree O/C'ing. 1 - Upgrade CPU from 3800+ to Opteron 170 2 - Add Thermaltake Big Water, water cooling 3 - Add another 7900GT for SLI Ever since, I cannot seem to boot up correctly as the VGA card will not display. I tried everything, it seemed to briefly work when I removed the BIOS battery and reset the CMOS. Then, after reading a random thread I tried swapping my DVI cable for a VGA cable to my monitor and Hey-presto it now works. Before then, I was about to chuck the whole thing out of my top storey window as it was driving me crazy!!! I've tried running in single Gfx card mode but still it intermittently only works on DVI, triple checked all of my connections, jumpers, BIOS settings etc... Now I cannot think for the life of me, why this should be working as to enable VGA, you have to use a DVI - VGA adaptor. Is there a setting i've missed somewhere???? I want to go back to DVI as the quality on VGA is poo!
SeanDude05 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Thats odd, could your DVI cable be faulty?
jfazzie Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I don't think its my DVI cable as it worked okay before. I forgot to mention that before I decided to go SLI I had a XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 XXX Edition, but I couldnt seem to find anyone selling them in the UK so I sold it and bought two XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 Extreme Edition, thats when I started to get problems. ebdoradz Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 have you tried each card separatly??? maybe one of the card is faulty
jfazzie Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Thanks for the reply, yep, tried both separately and still get the same problem on each card in single gfx mode. Sorry should have mentioned that, I remember getting the same problem once on my old card but resetting the CMOS seemed to fix it then. It doesn't now. If you havent tried another DVI cable, i wouldnt rule it out. Do you have, or have you tried another cable at this point? The cards are from the same manufacturer but different specs (one is default o'c'd). Did you uninstallreinstall your card drivers after putting the new cards in?
