How to re-add a new HDD to a broken RAID1?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

could anyone please tell me how to re-add a new hdd to an existing RAID1-array after one hdd crashed?

The array is still there, but due to a hhd-crash it is now broken. The Mashine still boots with the broken array.

Is it possible to do this under Windows?

Or do I have to do it via the RAID-Bios?

I am afraid to kill the existing data from the still fine and working hdd...

Thanx in advance,

Linus

Usaully, you stick in the new drive, and then in RAID bios, you tell it to rebuild the damaged array.

You can also re-enter the raid bios and delete the old arry and clear the disk and build a new arry.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying to him to delete the data on the harddrive that survived?

To me, it doesn't sound like this is what he wanted to do :)
