System freezes, unfreezes stutters..RAID 0??

Recommended Posts

I just added additonal HDD and made 2 sets of RAID 0. They seem to work fine but... today my system started freezing when transfering files from DVD to disk. I noticed one of my Raid drives is 64k cluster size (boot) and the other is 16. I also noticed that my DVD access seems slower noisier and very sputtery...

The only new thing was the addition of windows updates...

I noticed when I chec my Drive (Raid) properties the drivers are Microsoft. I did use the F6 option when I installed XP Pro..

This is driving me crazy..

I must add the freesing jittery performance happens mainly when using the DVD to transfer

Yes I installed the SW IDE drivers (Version: 6.86) this last update. But before that I didn't use them. Somehow when I installed the first drive I chose 64 (mistake I meant 16) then I installed windows and latter added my second Raid at 16... Is there a way to change cluster size without loosing my data for the OS...? I'm sure I can't but just want to hear it from someone else. I dont use large files so wouldn't 16 be better or will 64 be ok. My D drive I can change its setting without worry but would hate to (But will) do a complete reinstall!!

Should I not use the SW IDE drivers?

Could not do a rollback..

I uninstalled everything (anything Nvidia) with Driver Cleaner Pro and deleted the folder as well and reinstalled without the storage driver...Seems better....Will keep testing.

The question remains should I use set up both drives as 16? or can they operate ok at 64?

Does my performance suffer as a result?

Guest Kobalt

The nvidia drivers had issues with optical drives mainly.

The speed is pretty much the same as the MS ones.

The Nvidia ones have more features than the generic MS ones, as you would expect.

AFAIK, both drives should be the same. I never heard of a array that had different sizes. It could cause all sorts of problems one would think.

I would say reformat the drives to be exact same, and go from there.
