7950 GX2 and User Defined Application Profiles

Recommended Posts

I'm upgrading to a 7950 thru EVGA's Step-up Program. In the meantime, I have been reading over user forum comments (maybe my first mistake) about the card to get a handle on any potential problems, tweaking ideas, etc.. One comment by a user has me scratching my head. He stated that he was using the 7950 with the 91.31 drivers. He stated that if he made a user defined Application Profile for a game, he could not get the card to correctly run in it's dual gpu SLI mode.

Not having the card yet, it's my understanding that if one makes a User Profile, one has to select a check box for multi-gpu function and the SLI mode desired (SLR, AFR1, AFR2).

Can someone with a 7950 validate the user comment I read on the forum ?

It was my understanding that all SLI options were available to a single 7950, including the 8x SLI and 16x SLI mode antialiasing. I also understand that one can make a user defined profile for any application with no loss of dual chip ability. Am I correct ?

Thanks. Again, I may have just read bad info on a forum post. Not having the card, I just wanted to understand this.

Thanks Sorrento. I thought that it was just an uninformed post, but wanted to make sure that the 7950's performed as well as the reviews have stated. I'm in a long queue for a Step-up. I probably won't see an upgrade till early fall.

Right now the only problems are the drivers... while 91.31 is limited to some function on these cards, the 91.33 beta have a ton of bugs and should be avoided as much as possible.

I have read these reports about not being able to use the game profiles too, but I think it has something to do with other things like driver installation and tweaking. I wouldn't worry about this at all if I was you, newer drivers will keep fixing bugs and optimize the video card one way or the other.

I somewhat expected that from the get go. The drivers will only get better. Running my 6800GT (AGP) for the last year, the 8xxx drivers finally peaked that card's performance.

Have you tried the 91.33 or 91.37's ? I'm running the 91.33's on my 7900 GT KO and I find the IQ much better than the 91.33. I have not tried the 91.37's. I'll wait for my Step-up for those. Hopefully, there will a much better offical drivers by that time.
