UT NF3 250GB & High Power GFX

Recommended Posts

About 3 weeks there was a storm here. My router got taken out because it was on the other side of the room, but my PC was behind a surge protector. About a week later my PC wouldn't boot with my 6800GT. I took it as a mobo issue, and got my hands on a PCIe mobo and X550 to keep me going.

Being sick of my new set up, I tried the DFI one last time with a frends MX400 and it worked! SO I got hold of a R9250 to tide me over, and took it that my 6800GT was broken. Now I have just recieved a X1600Pro in the post, and it won't work!

I'm guessing now that this is an issue with my AGP slot, as I've not tested my 6800GT on another board as I don't have one available. Been almost 3 weeks now and I miss my rig.

Does anyone have any ideas other than the AGP slot not providing enough juice?

Maybe your PSU is low on Amps for the Card. I have no idea about your PSU but both of mine are generic crap with 18Amps on the 12v and it takes both of them to give me enough power for my rig. Only use the hardware you absolutely need to boot into windows ie , CD, 1 Hard drive , G/card and no extra fans or lights. try and put your G/card on a free molex with nothing else attached.

The power supply is fine - 32A is more than enough as the GFX card is on it's own rail.

I have tested other motherboards and graphics cards using it and the output seems solid.

I took my 6800GT to a friends and it won't work in his rig either, so now I'm guessing the AGP slot and the 6800GT are broken.

Been told my new mobo, which I've been waiting for for weeks now, should be with me on Tues. Yet another wait.

A lot of people have had problems with the AGP X1600s on that board, there have been a couple of threads started here about the same issue. I don’t recall if there was ever any resolution… scared me away from buying one as a matter of fact.

That said, it does sound like you should suspect you PSU first, maybe try a known good one that can support the high power requirements of the 6800GT. But you may never get the X1600 working regardless of PSUs.

The PSU is fine like I said above. The problem lies with the motherboard and my 6800GT. I know for a fact I need a new mobo but was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.

I keep wishing that it was my board that is fine because I love it, but having spent all this money up to now and it just being my PSU would be a pain in the hole :P

[Edit] Sorry over the weekend I did test the 6800GT, and it most certainly is broken.
