n1ce_hat Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 For the sake of folding, is it possible to wire in more than one motherboard to the same power supply? Using a splitter or splicing wires is fine by me, or would it be pointless? Would there be any power savings? I would like to have one giant power supply running a few systems.. I'm not sure if it is doable.
red930 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 can i ask why? surely buying cheapy 350w psu's will be cheaper than one giganto psu
n1ce_hat Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 can i ask why? surely buying cheapy 350w psu's will be cheaper than one giganto psu but perhaps if i feel crafty enough i can make my own psu? i dont know much about this kind of stuff, but i'm sure there's a tutorial out there to make your own power supply. or i wonder if a 350 watt power supply (like $20 new for a 450w at the store by my house).. could one of those be wired to power two systems? i would hopefully not be using CD-ROMs (and if i feel crafty still, create a diskless farm).. i wont be using crazy video cards or anything like that.. i'm sure 450w is PLENTY for a cheap beige box with no drives, could i not be able to use one per two systems? edit: the goal is to save money buying the power supplies but most importantly to save power in the long run. will one stressed supply draw more power than two not very stressed PSUs? Sorrento Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Multiple systems per PSU???? Isn't it the other way around??? Hehe, power is life... I think sdy284's suggestion is better.

neogenesis2004 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 most power supplies increase in efficiency up to a certain power draw and then plateau. So you may or may not save power with one vs two. It would be entirely dependent on the psu, design, and components its made of.
