3200-x2 4200

With the latest AMD price drops ,I will be getting a x2 4200 so is there anything I need to do different or is it CMOS clear , load defaults reboot and load settings and away we go.?

ie new drivers etc

I know use search but give a noobie a break :rolleyes:

I don't think a CMOS clear is needed.

 

However, you should:

 

1) Download & install AMD's X2 driver

 

2) Download & install the MS Dual Core hotfix (do a search for it)

 

3) Download & Install AMD's Dual Core fix

 

That's about it...

The cpu is treated as a device in windows so best to uninstall the cpu like you would a graphics card, uninstall the old and install the new.

Go into Device Manager and uninstall the old processor then shutdown, swap cpu's and install the new dual core following silencer's advice :

1) Download & install AMD's X2 driver

2) Download & install the MS Dual Core hotfix

3) Download & Install AMD's Dual Core fix

Best to keep bios settings as stock stable to avoid complications.

In all actuality, you should reinstall your OS after installing the processor.

is a bit extreme, silencer51's method should be fine, Flowerking's method is failsafe & will work fine.
