RAM Timings

Recommended Posts

Hey I recently bought a CFX3200-DR and am thinking about getting another gig of OCZ VX ram this ram runs at DDR500 2-2-2-5. My question is what would be better ( I plan to overclock) Getting a 2GB(1GBx2) kit that can do 3-3-3-5 1T timings and may not beable to hit 500mhz or 2-2-2-5 2t.

In other words 2-2-2-5 2T vs 3-3-3-5 1T

I get the same bandwidth with 2x1gb @ 1t 3-3-2-5 as i have seen others with 2x512mb @ 250 2-2-2-5. The extra bandwidth is had by bank interleave.

Something to keep in mind.

plus running 4x512 you will have to run t2 so the 2x1 gig will be better and don't worry about tight timings

yes and many 2go kits do better timings of what you think.. mine do 2.5-3-3-6 1T at 500mhz,... then it's needed pass at CAS 3.0.. after 252-253fsb,.. in real i think many can do the CAS 2.5.. but specially, i think use your VX for OC is better, i have use BH5 team group 2-2-2-5 1T, at 260x12, now i can tell you in bench the Bh5 2x512Mo are faster.. ( specially in Super PI, but in some 3D bench too,,),, Now for play, the 2x 1Go give a better bandwith for data..

The XMS i use have same spec of the TeamXtreem Cronus rated at 500mhz 2.5-4-4-8 1T (2Go)

Now you will not be able to OC same the VX id you put 4x 512Mo... it's will reduct a lot the speed of DDR

RAM timings on A64's are moot

look in the AMD - Overclocking section at the sticky threads...they'll show you real numbers.

1GB is not as good as 2GB, no matter what the timings are, for gaming or apps that need more than 1GB

I used to run 2x512 of OCZ BH-5 @ 265x11, 3.6v, 2-2-5-2, all the rest of timings super-tight.

but BF2 would STILL stutter at 1280x1024 resolution.

then i jammed in 2x1GB of OCZ PC4000 EL @ 240x12, 3-4-8-4, and BF2 instantly stopped stuttering (as did all of my other games)

benchmarks might have went down a little, but all of my games went UP!
