accuracy001 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Okay, I have to admit, this is the first time I have ever used a sata hard drive... I believe I have set it up correctly, but it would hurt to ask if i did right? I did get thing in the taskbar showing safely remove hardware, which i read more about, so I guess that's alright. I just went to taskbar properties and "always hide". 1) But to enable NCQ, do I actually have to do anything, or will it automatically be enabled. 2) And, to get 3gb/s , do I just have to plug in the harddrive to my nF4 chipset connectors? 3) And last, what difference does "enable smart HDD" in the BIOS option make? Any pointers would be appreciated, thanks.
red930 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 In order for the SATA harddrive to work properly is to install the SW IDE Drivers off the Chipset Drivers (I recommend 6.70). It would automatically enable NCQ and other features that your harddrive has. The Smart feature is to monitor any issues on your harddrive at anytime you have the machine on. I've never used it and personally i don't think you need it. So does this answer your questions?
accuracy001 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I had just installed the latest 8.86, chipset drivers... It only asked for the NVIDIA IDE Driver. Same thing? lol, btw, 3/29, is my birthday.
CopyNinjaKakash Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I know to enable the full SATA 3.0 spec on this hitachi i had to boot from a floppy and enable it thru the utility.
ollietwinam Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 How does one check that the Hard-Drives are running at 3.0GB/s lol? I removed the jumper from my HDD to enable 3gB/s, but I can't remember (lol, and it was only a week ago) if I installed any drivers for it... CopyNinjaKakash Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 At the time i knew mine wasnt because it shipped at 1.5 so it could be backwards compatable with other mobos that dont support 3.0. But i think there may be a few ways to check it like http://www.gtopala.com/siw_download.html --- SIW , which is like a mega-souped up version of CPUZ. Liquidfire Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 you can check under control panel / system / hardware / device manager / IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and depending on wich sata controller you are running it on will be under one of ADAMA controller properties
ollietwinam Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 "Theoretical Speed: 300.0 b/s Burst Speed: 203.3 b/s Sustained Speed: 75.8b/s" HUH??
SanguineI Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Yeah I just got a seagate too. Get a small tool and pull out that silly little jumper on the back of it or you'll be stuck at 1.5GB/s (it bugs me that they even put the darn thing on there). Guest Kobalt Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 "Theoretical Speed: 300.0 b/sBurst Speed: 203.3 b/s Sustained Speed: 75.8b/s" HUH?? Yeah, those are pretty much correct. SATA drives are not really any faster than the fastest IDE drives. At least, in real world testing.
SanguineI Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Yeah but the cables are pretty and they make you feel like a fancy man/woman
ollietwinam Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Haha, yeah i know, i think the jumper's there to provide back-compatibility or something I have noticed a speed increase with SATA though... I can access the drives from my computer a fraction of a second faster that my IDE
