Yes, the "dpms" option needs changed to "crt" instead.

uhm, i still cant get it to work.. i finally got into linux, but things still look wacko (with 32+64 bit versions)

 

here's a video of me loading ubuntu. it's kinda long, sorry.. it shows that when i get into linux, the screen goes haywire.. video taken with 32-bit linux.

I use Knoppix on my computer at work and love it but it has the habit of disabling my marvel yukon ethernet port....disabling as in switching it off for good unless I clear the CMOS a few times.

 

Anyone else had a similar problem with Knoppix. Puts me off using Linux on my rig :-(

try another live cd... if the video card don start, select safe mode, and if you can select the driver choose vesa, then if the sistem start (you will see a debian instaler first to configure some options like language, keyboard...) with or without X server, open a terminal (if you are in the X) o symple type, sudo apt-get install kmod-nvidia nvidia-kernel-modules, this will install the drivers... and all happy... if you still have problems, try fedora, works excelent...
