Ram discrepancy?

I've been running a rdx200 24/7 for about 8 months as a linux machine, only rebooting on weekends for gaming ;) and been extremely pleased with it.

I've only had 2Gb of memory untill now and trying to add in 2Gb more my post is comming up short, quite a bit short. With 3 sticks I show 3.2Gb, it doesnt matter which combination it always shows the same. With 4 sticks I only show 3.5Gb. So why is my last Gb stick of ram only increasing my memory by 300k?

I've seen in our rack computers with identical hardware and identical ram show differences +- 100k or so for memory, but 600K on mine? Seems a bit odd it would be that extreme. Any ideas of the cause?

PS. If you are trying to 4Gb in this board and it wont post or locks up after a few mins nomatter what timings you try, try connecting the 4pin power connecter between the ram and the graphics card. It might save you the 4 hrs of grief it took me to figure that out ;)

Yeah, well you should have all the power plugs properly connected to the motherboard. Have you compared the BIOS version that you are running at work with the PC you're having trouble with? Isn't there a newer BIOS version for your motherboard by now? Try it and see what happens....

Note: Why don't you try the first dual channel in the slots you had them work for 8 months and run MEMTEST86 Manual Input TEST#5 to see if you at least get 35-40 passes. Now take those two dual channel memory modules out and try the two new ones, see where i'm going with this? If they all pass, try 2T on your CPC settings unless you have done so. Last resort would be checking for an updated Bios for your motherboard....

Ok tried the sugestions here and got all 4Gb of ram to show up, but I loose my network cards when I do so. I dont think linux likes hardware just vanishing and changing addresses ;) so I'll have to figure out how to redetect and remap all my pci cards in my OS during a long enough slow period to take the machine down again.

Oh and Mack27 I'd already checked that my bios was current, I updated it in Jan. no new ones since then. Nice pic btw, I used to drive a tempermental '56 Mack dump truck when I worked in paving to pay for school, 2 1/2 million miles and it still ran.
