Alright so i've been away for about six months and haven't been able to keep up with the hardware like i should be... anything groundbreaking happen in the graphics card department though?

I know that my poor Ti 4200 is gonna buckle under the weight of HL2 but anyone have any idea's as to wether now is the time to buy.. or now is the time to wait for the next generation>?

oh BTW does anyone know which card benched better under HL2 the 5900 ultra or the 9800 pro?

thx for the time peepz

I agree with andrusk...Ati's xt line is just being released which should drive prices on 9800 pros down a bit. Go with ATI over Nvidia...the fx series just sucks. The 5900 ultra can barely keep up with a 9800 pro, and it takes up two slots as opposed to the 9800's one.

Appearently youve missed quite abit about the controversy around the way that the fx series really fubared its dx 9 compliance. As in.... It really isnt. Nividia made a huge mess of the fx series and basically crippled the cards. If you look up the benchmarks for half life 2 youll see what we're talking about. And what little performance the fx series does have in hl2 had to be specially coded and crippled (down to a beefed up dx 8) just to get it to run on the nvidia cards. The reason nobody noticed the crippling until it was too late is cause there wasnt really any dx9 games out that they could bench. Alas, nvidia is now on a lot of peoples hit list. We'll see if they do any better with their next line of cards. :stupid:

no i remember the controversy, and i remember that the 5200 5600 and 5800 were just flops... but i thought the 5900 was Nvidia's answer to their problem... wasn't aware that it was just as much of a piece of junk.

have they been fubbing the bechmarks again?

Precisely. Heads up 9800 vs fx5900 in Dx8 they were heads up with 9800 pro winning some gaming tests and fx5900 winning some gaming tests. As soon as I found out about Dx9, after i bought the card, I realized I got screwed. Oh well because the two games I primarily play is CS and Desert Combat it doesn't effect me NOW, However Im screwed for future games.

And yes andrusk..THEY ARE ON MY HIT LIST (unless they can come up with some "Miracle Drivers")

the 9800 XT to the 9800 pro is about the same difference as a 9800 pro and the 9700 pro.

Also if your on a budget i read on the inq that power color was releasing a 9600XT with 500mhz core and 760 mhz memory (160mhz faster than reference). That might be a pretty sweet mainstream card.
