DeMoN Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 does any one know about amd's cpu socket clearence policy or rules?? becuase i have my gigabyte ga-7nnxp, and becuase of the placement of 2 capacitors (i think) i can hardly use my volcano 11+. and i can not use my new maze 4 with out breaking them. which i guess would render the mobo useless in the pic u can see how close they are to the socket. i rember someone talking about this on another site but that site is no longer any one else had this problem?? i have done google searches on this and have not found any thing. i might not be useing the right words. Guest Trios Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 I don't think that AMD has any set clearance policy, because AMD isn't really in the heatsink market. I doubt the sinks that come with AMD chips are made by them, and their dimensions are actually pretty compact and don't go much over the slot. If you can't bend the capacitors any more, then you either have to get out the dremel and shave some off your heatsink so it will fit, or buy a new mobo. Or...Just something I thought up...I suppose you could unsolder the capacitors from the mobo, solder in some wires that go from the solder points to the capacitors, and place them elsewhere. Dunno if that would actually work...but in theory.... *DISCLAIMER: Trios can and will not be held accountable for any damage done to your system by following the above directions.
