boggy Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 What do u use to secure BGA or mosfet dissy? Is thermal adesive pad so bad compared to bicomponent adhesive paste?
red930 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Arctic Silver Adhesive works well, takes a good day or so to set properly. Of course if you ever want to remove it....well it could be a pain in the butt. But it's better than the adhesive sticky pads that are generally included with sinks by a lot. Otherwise you can use AS5 or Ceramique with a dab of superglue to hold the sink down.
Angry_Games Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 these thermal pads from Chomerics were extremely popular a while ago, and many of us got free samples from them: http://www.chomerics.com/products/thermal.htm
Lesaonar Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 What I did on my old NF7-S setup was dilute the AC adhesive with AS5. About 2/3 adhesive to 1/3 as5 and the sinks are easily removed.
boggy Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Well you may remember that I had a lot of issues with my 7900GTXs. I decided to give these cards a last chanche bfore moving to ATI. So now I have my 4th and 5th RMA cards here but this time they are PNY (lowest fail rate according to my investigations). This time I wanna try replace stock dissyes mainly beause I think RAMs are not cooled properly at all. THere's no temp sensor for ram chips so noone pays attention to them but they can get really hot specially the modules near the power circuitery (notice that on my board these also happen to be right above the NF4 chipset...). Bottom line I will swap stock dissy on both cards with zalmans vf 900 and revoltec BGA copper ram dissy. I also bought artic adhesive for ram sinks but now I am scared to use it. First of all I will need to remount stock coolers in case cards fail again and second installation using this paste could be though. On the other hand i fear thermal pads cant hold copper sinks. johndoe25 Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 you have to give them a UPS fedex account number to have some sample :S Maybe someone here can order some & then resell to us in the "for sale or trade' forum. I would like to try the pads myself.
