megsy Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/de...n=ADA3800DAA5BV http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/de...n=ADA3800DAA5CD One of these is my CPU, I forget what my stepping is. I'm willing to do some overclocking, just to find the max, because I think this chip can go higher than 2.8 GHz and it's only taking 1.48V for that. According to either of those, the temperatures for both steppings are listed as 49-71C. Is 71C the [damage] threshold? At 2.8 GHz with 1.48V, the temperature varied between 52 and 54C. If it is 71C, then I'm safe by a lot.
red930 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 If it is 71C, then I'm safe by a lot. I'm guessing you mean under 71C, but no you won't be. The general rule of thumb here is less than 50C and you're okay, anything over that can be iffy. Yes, AMD rates their processors much higher, but they could easily be rating the INTERNAL temperature of the core, which could be quite a bit higher than what any board is gonna read. Keep it under 50, or you really might not be happy with the results.
lowboy Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 If your dual prime stable with that voltage at 2800mhz you have a great chip there. As technodanvan said most like under 50C
Guest caffeinejunkie Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 52-54c is in the acceptable range but it would be best to get it down. The A64 Freezer Pro is pretty good HSF so you might want to try re-seating and making sure it makes good contact. Also make sure your using the proper amount of thermal paste like this: ALso your ePower Puma II 450W psu doesnt meet the recommended 480w w/ atleast 34a on the 12v line. It may not be a problem now but it's likely to rear it's ugly head later down the road. You might want to look into getting a psu off the Recommended List. Just thought id give you a heads up on that.
