Right now is probably the worst time to be building a rig based on Socket 939 AMD, With Conroe just around the corner and if current pricing estimates hold up you will get a lot more for your money. Also have a new OS, and DX10 capable video cards coming soon as well. Any system you build now will get smoked by a system built a couple months from now for less money.

Conroe releases on July 23rd. Have to wait till it gets close to see what boards are going to be released for it. Boards based on the 975X chipset will support it but we will have to wait til it gets close to see what is actually going to be available. And I'm sure vid cards will follow soon after so they take advantage of the money being thrown around.

Even if you decide to go 939 I would wait just a little longer and take advantage of the price drops that are sure to come.

Faster than one in your sig or are you running something else. My Opty runs at well over 3ghz and it will get walked all over by a conroe.

Dude, there is not much point getting a new pc right now. Looking at your sig that pc is good enough to hold up for a month or two. Then grab your self a conroe cpu and the DFI intel motherboard. 4GB ram in not needed atm. 2GB is enough so that might leave you come money for water cooling so you can overclock the conroe cpu. Also if you wait till conroe is out and then dont bother with a GFX card and then wait a bit till DX10 capable cards come. Then you will have a awasome system. Theres no point making on big jump. I have learnt that with my system now i am constantley thinking how am i going to upgrade this to this ect. So if you make one jump at a time you will end up with a decent rig.

Best to wait until you know exactly what your getting.conroe and AM2 both have DDR2 memory but I would wait as mfgs are bring out new DDR2 memory. The psu you could be safe with the OCZ

I would of though,

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

DFI Infinity 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5300 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR2

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)

Tagan TG900-U95 900W ATX2.01 Turbojet Quad SLi Silent PSU

That seems good enough not shure about the price as im in the uk and used a uk shop to get the products off. Those cost about £700. You can go for the 6400 conroe but 6600 seems more popular i think. As i said i would wait for direct x 10 cards to come out. So you 9800 should run games fine at the moment. As the CPU and RAM will probobally add performace. Plus im not shure if that CPU cooler will fit the CPU i should do. Arctic coolers are far by some of the best CPU coolers about. I should be getting the 64 pro for my Amd CPU when i get my ram or something lol. The RAM seems ok im not shure about DDR2 ram. Timings seem good so you should be able to get a good overclock out the CPU.

I hope this helps. :).

Thanks.
