herbeapuce Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 HI. I'm just wondering if it's easy to connect an extra power supply into my case and having it powering up both at the same time. Can this be achieved by simply connecting the wires at the on/off switch on the case, hijacking on the wires of the existing PSU? Does it make any sense? Anything else I should be concerned with? Have you done this? Thanks for your time. Stef.
red930 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 People have done it, and I don't believe it's that difficult. I'm sure you'd find a lot more information and probably some guides if you google it.
Guest Kobalt Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Nope, not that simple. In fact, that won't work at all. The old method of connecting 2 pins on the ATX connector won't work either, since now, most PSUs need a load on them to power up. Why do you want 2 PSUs? For what it is worth, I forgot who it was, but a company is making what you want, specifically for SLI/crossfire boards. The 2nd PSU will power the cards, while the main is normal. ReMoose Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 you should just be able to jump pin 4(green) and pin 6(black) on the main atx connector of the psu and it will kick on.
