xjedi Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Hi, Im having trouble with my crossfire setup. It seems that its realy finnicky when I try to play games. The only games it plays well for me that I own is F.E.A.R. and Condemened (after renaming the .exe file to AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe) so far.. When I try to play Tomb Raider Legends or Oblivion I get even worse performance then when I have Crossfire disabled, even with renaming the .exe files!! So I wanted to know if theres any trick or anything I should know that will help me get the performance I should be getting. Thanks! My second problem is that I want to know if my ram is whats hendering me from overclocking more. If so is there any ram that you guys would recommend that would help me overclock better. Right now my fsb is @ 294mhz, my memory speed is 166mhz, HT is 4x and cpu voltage is 1.67 volts according to smart guardian but sometimes that can be finnicky too. THANKS FOR READING AND THANKS YOUR HELP IN ADVANCED!

Angry_Games Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 your psu is definitely not good enough for both X1900 cards but also...Crossfire is an immature platform for the most part...and games (especially oblivion which I play regularly) still plays worse in Crossfire mode than when using a single card. I've since given up on Crossfire and downclocked the second X1900 and heavily overclocked the first one, removed .NET, and am actually enjoying the games now (its the same as when I first had SLI...it pretty much sucked and so did trying to play games) ATI will resolve these issues as time goes on with mature drivers...in the meantime, look for a psu that can cut the mustard (because the one you have simply won't do for X1900 crossfire)
red930 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 If your HTT is @294 why do you have your HTT/LDT only at 4x? It should be 3x. That memory kit should overclock just slightly over 200MHz, not sure why you only have it around 166? Did you mean it's on a 166 divider, because if so it's actually probably higher than 200MHz at this point. I have a pair of G.SKILL 2GB PC4000 that is hitting @260MHz on stock timings with no tweaks, maybe you should give that a try. Only $160+ over at Newegg.com if you live in the states. THANKS FOR READING AND THANKS YOUR HELP IN ADVANCED! I'm kinda new to this crossfire stuff but are you sure you can run x1900's on a dfi rdx-200? I thought it was only the 3200 chip that would support that x1900 setup? Is there a bios update out to support a pair of x1900's on the rdx-200 board? if so let me know because I am looking at upgrading to the 3200 chip just for that reason. Guest Lavell Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 B4 the Administrators come and rip U apart, make a signature of your current system. Use my signature as an example. 2 answer your question, yes U can run a pair of X1900s in Crossfire mode on a RDX200 CF-DR motherboard. Just make sure U have a high wattage power supply from a well known manufacturer. I currently have a pair of X1800s in Crossfire mode on this board (see sig). I feel much better now that someone else is saying that crossfire is kinda sucking right now.. exept for only a few games that I already beat and dont feel like playing right now. Umm hate to say it but its ur power supply m8. you need 600W (thats the recommended minimum for crossfire and that doesnt include 2 hard disks, 550W wont cut it with 2 cards ESPECIALLY when you push 2.6ghz!!!!) I got this powersupply because it was recommended on the ati site.. plus im a cheap butt mofo.. and I go to a 4 year college and i only have like 100 bucks to spend on a freakin powersupply.. It took me forever to save up for this system. But yeah i guess i better start saving again so i can get a better psu. Is there any PSUs anyone can recommend.. I see a wide rage of powersupplies used on this forum.. and im kinda confused as to what powersupplies to look for. I was just lookin for the ones that was recommend by ati for crossfire. And i was also lookin at railings and the neo HE i think had pretty good railings across the board.. If your HTT is @294 why do you have your HTT/LDT only at 4x? It should be 3x. Thats my dumbass mistake sorry.

So is it the bios update 12/23/2005 that is the key to running either x1900's or x1800's on the rdx200? How does it run for you? Do you find any boost iin overall performance? Would you reccomend the cfx3200 board over the rdx 200? Its just preferable that you have them. But reguardess of what chipset it is and what speed each pci-e slot runs at its still a crossfire motherboard and any pci-e crossfire ready card and any crossfire edition card of the same series should be able to run in crossfire mode on any crossfire motherboard. Thats my understanding of it. If you want proof look at some of the original benchmarks and reviews of x1900xts in crossfire they were mostly done with the asus ar-mvp mobo which is worse then the dfi rdx200 ( I know I had one lol..) but has pretty much all the same features as the rdx200 in that it only allows 16x bandwith for both slots . Well, I'm about to venture into the world of crossfire then. Any suggestions on card brands....I love Asus graphics and was going to start there but would take in consideration just about anything. Also, I want to upgrade my memory to 2GB instead of 1GB....any suggestions there for a good set of overclockers? I was looking at DFI's reccomendations but always look to the seasoned users for better tested solutions. Some help or suggestions on system similar FSB clocking would be nice too! I run the AMD64 athlon X2 4200. thanks all, AMD64 X2 +4200 DFI Lanparty UT RDX200 CF-DR Cosair DDR 400 2x512mb @ 433mhz 3-3-3-7 enermax liberty 620w PSU WD Raptor 74GB HD (2) ATI x1900 all in wonder lite-on DVD-RW Lacie 500GB EXternal HD 50" Samsung DLP monitor Thermaltake Saprano MIDATX case Logitech nivivo blutooth wireless system
gerv Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Dunno why the majority of replies here are pointing to the psu when its recommended by ati for x1900 crossfire setups.
