Elias Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 So I adjusted some memroy settings and I guess I went a little to far and now my computer wont post, It does beep very loudly and it has 3 leds lit meaning a memory problem. Ive tried using the clear cmos jumper with and without the battary in but it dosent seem to help. I know there are some crazy ways to clear the cmos so im probably missing some steps. Elias Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I actually managed to fix this myslef just a minuet or so after I posted. But now ive got a new problem, I managed to get it to boot by puting one stick of memory in the top orange slot, I loaded the optomized defaults and now it works, but whenever I put my other stick of memory in it just beeps and wont boot. It will boot with either stick of memory but not when they are both in at the same time, in either yellow or orange slots. Its really annoying only running with half your memroy, anyone have any advice?
wevsspot Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Please run MemTest from your BIOS on each stick individually and each time with that stick in the top most orange RAM slot. If both sticks pass MemTest, leave one stick in that top most orange slot and proceed with format and Windows installation, updates, driver installs etc. After you've got that done go back and install your second RAM module. Reload optimized defaults, reboot, enter BIOS again and change your timings to 2.5-3-7-3 Also bump your DRAM voltage up to 2.7v Leave all other BIOS and memory settings at the BIOS auto settings or default settings. See if that at least gets you up and running. And please clarify exactly what speed OCZ RAM you are currently running. From the information you provided I can't tell whether you're trying to say you are running PC3200 or whether you are running your RAM at 200mhz (i.e. 1:1 ratio) What BIOS version you currently running? Elias Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Well I ran memtest on both sticks, and for some reason one is being picked up as as 64mb instead of 512. so I guess ill have to RMA my ram. well I suppose I can borrow some ram so my computer will still run. thanks for the advise
wevsspot Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 If it's only being detected at 64mb apparently you've got several bad ic's.
