A little help needed with new build.

Recommended Posts

ok well i have flashed the bios now and am using 0704-2bta and at least windows boots so i can get on this forum..... thank god....

i still can not get the system to run stable.

i tryed the new version of memtest 1.65+ in the bios and it ran fine with no errors with all 4 sticks of ram in. but when i changed some of the options in memtest to test all memory and use a phase check. errors began to show immediatly.

so....

i shut down the system

removed 3 sticks and left one sitck in the orange slot closest to the cpu.

rebooted and....... 3 red leds and beep.....beep....beep....beep.... and keeps beeping.

then i tryed a hard 10 min cmos clear.

still same as above

shut down and same stick in the other orange slot..... booted fine( not windows tho that locked up)

so now im in windows talking to you with 2 sticks in orange slots. (unstable as hell explorer crashes constantly)

tcl 2

trcd 03

tras 05

trp 02

and evey thing else auto.

what options in memtest should i be using to test each stick of ram sepeartly as i think im doing it wrong.

also why cant i use the first orange slot anymore

i really need this thing stable and i need it soon

any help would be greatly appreciated

On an NF4 board MemTests #5 and #8 are the most telling. Reboot your pc and reload optimized defaults. Make sure after you do that you enable MMIO hole, at least that way BIOS detects 4gb of memory. Window 32bit never will, so you're pretty much screwed there, but if you ever decide to upgrade to Vista it should.

Not sure why you started buggering with the BIOS settings if it was running fine at the BIOS defaults.

1 stick of memory will ONLY work in the slots furthest from cpu 1&2. 1stick in 3 or 4 will NEVER work.

i started "buggering" with the settings cause the bios deafults just put the system into constant reboots when windows starts to load....

If you are running with 4 sticks, you need to set Command Per Clock to disable (2T) in the DRAM settings. If you are not OC'd at all, it is most probably an issue of RAM settings. May need to do further tweaking...

For me, prime95 crashes when:

- My CPU gets too hot ie >50C

- My RAM timings are too tight

- I don't have enough volts to my CPU (OC) / RAM

I don't think that you will be able to get prime stable with all DRAM settings on "Auto" unless you are really lucky. Try the settings in an earlier post as a start, but with 4 sticks, run at 2T.

Does it work at DDR 333 ? (166mhz x 2)

You should try it, select the 5:6 divider under memory settings.

Remember you are not guaranteed that just because you have 4 sticks of memory they will all work together. As singles all sticks should work, as duals yes most will work but as always a "matched pair" that has been tested together in dual channel is prefered. But to be running 4 sticks, maybe you need the same brand, model and revision of memory... Either way you are not guaranteed that a "matching pair" memory will work at that speed if you are running 4 sticks, all that is guaranteed is that speed with 2 sticks.
