Inu_Yasha Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 Ok guys... I'm kinda in a fix. I'm trying to figure out which hsf to get (also need help with a hsf). My choices are a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ or a Thermalright AX-478 w/ Thermaltake smart case fan (or suggest a fan that pumps cfm with low dba and NOT a delta). Which do you guys suggest? Also, i got my cpu in today. On the bottom of the hsf there's some black stuff... Do i need to remove that or what?
Inu_Yasha Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 Oh yeah, suggest a heatsink also if you'd like. I have a p4 2.26. I don't want to get over the $40 range.

Inu_Yasha Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 Hmmmmm... I was reading on overclockers.com that that heatsink is better than the volcano 7+! I dunno... its a really hard decision. Can some others give me some feedback? Also, does anyone know where i can find one of the tt smart case fans 2? I can't seem to find anyone that sells it. Also, what's a good 80mm fan that pumps out alot of cfm. I heard that delta's and tornados are really really loud. I need something i can bear as i sleep with my comp in the same room. thanks. Oh yeah, how would i go about cleaning that black crap off? Also... what is it?
NyCUnDaGroUnD Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 i would recommend the volcano 7+. Have it on medium speed cuz if u have it on high, the noise will be unbearable. But if u have the money, go for the watercooling kit.
d3bruts1d Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 Well... I'd recomend the swiftech with a delta or tornado fan...
Inu_Yasha Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 lol... watercooling is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive. The volcano 7+ and the thermalright ax-478 w/thermaltake smart case fan cost the same amount. The thermaltake smart case fan is the same one that they use on the volcano 7. I was looking at this from overclockers.com: http://www.overclockers.com/articles574/ and http://www.overclockers.com/articles373 look at it. both times it beat the tt volcano 7+. That's what makes it hard... Also, if i could find the case fan 2. It should outperform the volcano 7+... I don't know. I'm planning on ordering my hsf asap. Please ppl. I need more feedback. Shaggy Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 If you take off that black stuff, just remember to substitute with HS paste. You know, nanotherm, arctic silver, etc.

Do i need to remove that or what? the black stuff is something to protect your heatsink while it is in transit. what i would do is what i just did. get an adapter that will go from whatever side the top of your heatsink takes to a 120mm size. then get a delta 120 ehe. it puts out 190 cubic feet of air. it is not all that loud. it spins at 4000 rpms. it works great and will cool your cpu quite well. be sure and put artic silver 111 on your cpu, just a small amount covering all the processor before u put on your heat sink. check it out.
