DevilMB3017 Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Well, i've seen computers, including monitors, put into bigger monitor housings. I would like to put my ATX components into an iMac case. Can anyone take measurments of one for me that has one? I think Bigred over there might have one? yea? Anways - i need length, width, height and depth, naturally. Also, could you include the diagonal of the side from top right corner to bottom left corner of the LEFT side of the unit (assuming you are looking at the front). Thanks in advance... bigred Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 the only way its gonna work is mini-itx with everything built in. Imac's are just way too cramped for anything else to work. sorry If you want to give it a shot, try the compusa auction page. they have stuff like mac cases and sometimes dead imacs
DevilMB3017 Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Oh well What if I used it as a case and replaced the monitor with a plexi-glass sheet as a window? Anyone with skills/time/money, feel free to steal my ideas...lol
Gigashadow Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I'm with Bigred, I have an Imac and there's no room, I've taken it apart before just to see how they cramped it all in there, and it's all cramped in with a micro board. Now if you use the power mac your talking, you have tons of room.
bigred Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 power mac uses a standard micro atx layout. emacs you might be able to squeeze a micro atx board in there... but still no room for any expansion cards. mac is real good at crammin stuff in there so you can't do much. the new lcd imac is a prime example of that. it has 2 dimm slots, 1 sodimm and 1 regular dimm. sodimm is on the bottom, but to get the full size one you have to remove the bottom, the weight, the optical drive, the hdd THEN the mobo to even see the darn thing. I can put tear a regular desktop computer appart and have all new insides installed in uder 10 min, but it takes me over 2 hours to put a new dimm in the top slot of a newer imac... it's like brain surgery. Ghost2520 Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 What if you gutted one of the G5 cases? I saw one at the store the other day and it didn't look to cramped. Maybe a G4 case... I don't know, I love the G5 cases though it would be cool to see one modded to be a PC.
Gigashadow Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 It's been done. Oh that's the case I ment before red, the G5.
bigred Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 it's still a standard matx case. nothing fancy on that end except for the wind tunnel effect it has.
Kamikaze_Badger Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 And, the pin layout wouldn't work for an ATX board. There was some guy at the Overclockers Cafe who tried that... put in a micro-ATX board with crappy stuff so he could burn CDs and listen to music(he wanted a fricking DELL, too!).
