Hacking away at my Antec Lanboy!

Recommended Posts

Got my lanboy yesterday, decided to take it apart. This is what I see behind the intake fan.

Not only does that fan grille look like it would kill my airflow, so do the HD bays right behind the grille. So I thought I'd get my dremmel out.

And here is what we have a couple hours later.

Now that looks much better, a little rough but it was too much of a PITA to get the cutter in there to make everything perfect. I sacrificed two HD slots for better airflow, I only have one HD now anyways.

Also received the rest of my system today that is shown in my sig. Has anyone seen the CCBBE 0617FPMW steppings? A search on google comes up with nothing. Was hoping for a CCB1E

Looks good. Let me know if it helps your temps at all. I was thinking of doing a similar project on my thermaltake Tsunami Dream. All that metal keeps a lot of air from moving in and out of the casing. Good work. :tooth:

It'll definately help MJ. I cut out the hex grill from my Tsunami and dropped temps by about 2c. Adding a top exhaust where the jacks were, so I can get some better airflow happening as well.

I use that case alot, I always snip out the grill behind the intake fan. On serious systems, I cut a 120mm fan into the door to blow over the mosfet/dimm areas, works great.

Combine with a 120mm fan PSU and you have 2 slow 120mm intake, and 2 slow quiet 120mm exhaust, great combo.

Did you switch the two 120mm low speed fans with aftermarket high performance fans yet? That mod will do a nice job of better intake i'm sure. What do you think about the side window? I'm going to put a 120mm high speed fan on that intaking air towards the cpu, ram, power regulators. You should try the same....

Nicely done.... :)

Nice dremmel job, I did a similar number with my cheapy case, airflow improves drammatically without the resrictve grill. Tested using a ribbon of cloth, prior to removing grill the ribbon was not drawn to the intake, after modding the ribbon appears to have a life of its own. Not sure what difference to temps though can only be improvement.
