Psywar Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 (edited) Aight.. My CPU I cannot get it past 2.2something ghz.. I know thats around the max for a 2500Xp.. but.. Ive seen people get 2.3 and.. well dangit! I want it.. I think i have been doing something wrong.. my timings on my memory are at 5-2-2-2 and I just thought about it today talking in #overclockersclub.com with bishop.. is this why its unstable to I have to make my memory timings higher to get a stable overclock? just courious what u guys have ur timings at on ur high overclocks.. I am running the OCZ Pc3500EL mem. Edited October 12, 2003 by Psywar
aquiesce Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 If you are running your Memory @ 400Mhz try dropping it down to 333Mhz I know it sounds crazy but just try it as the bottleneck maybe with your memory also I would try timings a little slacker then tighten them up one at a time and check stability but b4 you do anything just try changing memory frequency Cheers
Psywar Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 (edited) i have the memory divider set at 3/3 so it is running at 333mhz with my timmings at 5-2-2-2 sorry I dident mention that.. What would u guys say for timmings.. i dont want to really go much higher.. I did notice a few people run like 11-2-2-3 or 5 for their timmings OCed Edited October 12, 2003 by Psywar
syneze Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Try the 2-2-3-11 timings. My OCZ EL wouldn't even run stock at 2-2-2-5 (it didn't claim to) but runs 215FSB fine 2-2-3-6. Also, OCZ needs 2.9vdimm to OC anywhere. And how old is your 2500+ psy? Is it brown or green?
GmAz Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 For starters, dont worry about memory timings for now. what is your multiplier, FSB and voltages set at? I have the 2500 Barton OC to 2.416Ghz. Multiplier at 12.5 and FSB at 193. I have never touched my timings. Anywho, my voltages are 1.85 for CPU, 2.8 for my memory. Also, what temps are you getting with what cooling. I am using Koolance watercooling. My bro-in-law's cmputer, I have got up to 2.16 Ghz with a Zalman fan/heatsink. It will go higher, but he is tesing it now to make sure its stable. After you give all yoru information I asked for, people can help you more. Memory timings are overrated I think. I know they help a bit, but not as much as you might think. It is problaby a voltage issue.
syneze Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Memory timings are overrated I think. Not in this case. OCZ does not like a TRCd of 2, it WILL hold your FSB back. And if you have a brown barton most of them suck for OC'ing, mine maxes at 2250mhz.
Psywar Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I cant remmeber what color the core is.. I can tell u I have the Multi at 12, and my FSB is like 185ish around their my memory is at 2.9volts and my core is 1.75 or 1.8 I cant recall.. Ive uped the voltage it dont help.. Mercury Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 with your ram, i would suggest slackening your timings, some rams can overclock at straight duces but ive only seen mushkin do that very well, corsair is 50/50, sometimes i can get it to go high, but sometimes not. your ram? as i said before, try loosening your timings, 2-3-2, see if that helps you, if not try 2-3-
FanATIc205 Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 (edited) if your running your fsb at 200 then i dont think ti would be the ram timings since you would just have to up the multi to 11.5 to reach 2300mhz . the 11 cas to ras setting yeilds the best bandwidth on the nf2 borads it got something to d owith how fast the mobo acces the mem. i see in your sig you have 3500 ram why arent you running the fsb @200 ? the 2500+ is a funny chip of the ten or so ive had in my hands they all oc diff some liked 2200mhz default voltage but weouldnt budge any more. its a hit or a miss with the 2500+ Edited October 15, 2003 by fanATIc1205
C0DE Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 no ram timming can have an effect.. maybe his 2-2-2 is fine at 166 but at 200 that can easily cause errors or be unstable. just set it to 2-3-3-11 for now and work on your fsb and multiplier. then after you get 2.2ghz mess with the timming again and shoot for 2-2-2-11. run memtest86 while you do that to check for stability. gl
FanATIc205 Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 no i was saying if he was already running a fsb of 200 then it couldnt be the ram since you would judt need to go to a multi of 11.5 to hit 2300mhz. after reading thru the psot i see he is not. but im puzzeld as to why he is running his ram so slow its ocz 3500 thats in his sig and his mobo should do 200fsb no problems ?
