LanParty CFX3200-DR (ATI R580) video card performance comparisons

Recommended Posts

ok, this is nothing serious...just a bit of a comparison that I did when I first put this baby together

here's the hardware specs on the rig(s) (the only thing that changes is the video cards, nothing else):

Lanparty CFX3200-DR

3200+ Venice @ 2Ghz

2x1024MB OCZ PC4000EB Platinum 3-3-8-2

2x80GB Hitachi SATA II hdd's RAID-0

OCZ GamerXtreme 700w psu

DangerDen Tyee Crossfire waterblocks + TDX cpu block

the vid cards, all run at their default overclock speeds

ie: the 7800GT = whatever coolbits overclocks to automatically

the X1900's = whatever CCC overclocks to in the Overdrive panel

here goes, 7800GT first, X1900XT single card second, X1900XT Crossfire third:

Cross fire seems to need some cpu mhz. Does CCC overclock the cards to same level when running 2 of them compared to single?

ya they will easily do 690/800 limit that CCC allows (on watercooling anyway)

on air cooling...I haven't really fooled with the aircooled ones too much lol...but I will have to now since this crossfire kit is watercooled by DangerDen Tyee X1900XT blocks and they are now being used as my main rig...so no more fooling around...time to start gaming!

Hey Happy could you test again the performance gap btween single and crossfire X1900s using the new cat 6.7 with forced AFR (no 3dMark just games)?

There should have been a nice improvement in xfire support with this last release and I was wondering if it could be worth moving to xfire...

obviously I would need to get a CFX mobo too so i just wanted to know if the perform gain was noticeable in real world.

many thanks

I'll try to get around to it, but I've given up on Crossfire for now and am only using a single card as Crossfire is still immature like SLI was (but SLI has matured quite nicely...but SLI/Crossfire is still only useful if you are running 1600x1200 or higher resolution...anything below this is a waste of money as well as a hassle)

I know it's useless for less than 16x12 res but I was toying with the idea of getting a 21-22 inch LCD for my birthday...

I would cover almost half of the price with a credit I have at an online shop (the faulty 7900 pair if you remember).

Anyway don't bother with it if you have the second card unplugged or the whole thing would take you much time.
