Yes, yes, yes and yes. It not recommended to use the motherboard fan headers to power your fans. I'm not using it by itself. I've got it powered by a 4-pin molex, it's connected to a fan controller too and I also plug the 3-pin in so I can see how fast it's going in ITE smart guardian...
