DarkStar02 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I am recieving the OpenAL error in Quake 4 even though I am not using any aftermarket soundcards. Why is this? P.S. I'm using gaming headphones.
croy1985 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 i think you need an x-fi, or similar to support openAL - not sure exactly which support openAL but i know x-fi does. Will the game boot up all the way to the menu so you can disable it there? if not, perhaps edit the cfg file and change the value for openAL to 0. sunnyeagle Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I tried that option and found no difference in sound, so I went back to default. The sound was just as good. You will need a very good sound card with the updated drivers. I can not tell you about the onboard sound drivers. Not sure if they are up to par for the newer games. DarkStar02 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I don't get a chance to do anything with openAL. I can't start the game at all. So, you're saying that you HAVE to have an X-Fi card or a high quality sound card to play this game? Seems a little rediculous. Where is the .cfg file? EDIT: Found the .cfg file, openAL is already set to 0? seta s_useOpenAL "0" Should I try enabling it maybe?
DarkStar02 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Updating to the 1.0.4 patch fixed whatever problem I was having.
