peshewah Posted October 11, 2003 Posted October 11, 2003 I"ll have two serial ata maxtor HD that will hookup to SATA connectors on mobo. And that will leave both of the ide connectors open.Right? I"ll connect the cd-rw (master) and dvd-rom(slave) to my secondary ide slot. Right? Is this the best way to hook them up or is there a better way? Also,is there jumpers on SATA HD's. Very new at this and I appericate your input. Also, can you tell me a good floppy drive to get.
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted October 11, 2003 Posted October 11, 2003 heh, when it comes to floppy drives it doesnt matter, any will you. I would connect the DVD-ROM to the primary IDE controller and the CD-RW to the secondary IDE controller (they are both set to slave but on different drives, just incase you want to add more HDs to IDE set those to master)
peshewah Posted October 11, 2003 Posted October 11, 2003 do they make single connecter cables ?Or do I have to use double connecters?
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Single device IDE cables do exist but I would suggest the norm, which is two 2 double connecting IDE cables can connect up to four devices For example: Primary cable-->1 HD as master and 1 CD-rom drive as slave Secondary cable--> same
peshewah Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 thanks for the info. But I"m still wondering about serial ATA hardrives. Do they only connect to SATA connectors and have nothing to do with ide connectors on the mobo? And is there a master/slave setting on them? Like I said I"m very new at this, but I"m having a good time trying to build one.And I do thank you for your help.
