1st build in a long time!

Recommended Posts

This is going to be my first time doing a build in over 3 years, as you can see from my sig my current system is pretty ancient. It is overclocked slightly so I do have some experience. I've been lurking the forums for a few days now and have come up with this.

I think everything here should go together pretty well, will be reusing my HD for the time being and I am still undecided on a case. I was thinking an Antec Lanboy but I'm not sure it would all fit in there with the monster Zalman HSF.

I have seen people using the 9500 in the LANBoy case so it should be fine. Looks like a really nice system to me.

Always nice to have more room in the case.

More room for cooling and more room for working.

To DFI-Street.

I’m running x2 4400 solid at 2.7Ghz [email protected]% = 1.50v Vcore (roughly) with temp at 27C Idle and 45C Loaded. I am duel core prime95 stable for over 12 hours.

I have Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu HSF with AS5. It has a nice low profile. The rest of my cooling consists of four Case fans. One 120mm TT adjustable in the front is pulling cool air in, one 80mm in the side is pulling cool air in and two 80mm in the rear pulling hot air (exhaust) out. My Sunbeam Nuuo 550w PSU also has two fans a 120mm and 80mm in exhaust mode that are adjustable.

I also cut all the stock fan guards out of my case (RaidMax Horizon ATX-287WB Mid Tower Case) with a Dremel for better air flow.

My ambient temps are 16ºC – 19ºC. I set in the BIOS, under PC health the “NB Fan Fully On…” at 40ºC and the “CPU Fully On…” at 27ºC.

My point is my air cooling is fairly good and so would any air cooling system with the right setup. So just don’t rely on just a CPU HSF but the whole system.

Thanks for the speedy replies everyone! The main reason I'm considering the lanboy is its vertical height, it needs to be under 18 inches to fit under my desk. Also it should have good airflow, the two 120mm's and the 9500 all pulling air from the front to the back. Still looking though, can't find anything yet that satisfies me 100%.

Welcome to the Street, reir!

You should enjoy your new build. It will be very fast.

The main concern I have is the ATI video card. I have read reviews from many who are having "mucho problemas" with the drivers. Hopefully--you won't have any problems.

One other thing I want to mention is, I just completed a new build (see my sig.) using a larger case than the one you chose and had some problems finding room for all of the cables. The "OCZ Powerstrem ADJ. 520W" is a great PSU, but it certainly isn't modular. The main power lead is like a water hose; well, maybe slightly smaller.

Good luck on the build.

if you want to check out the OCZ 600w GX (game extreme) psu, it should be about the same price as the Powerstream 520w and is brand new from OCZ...I've got the 700w version and it is supa fantastical and quickly becoming my favorite (and that is hard after all the 520w Powerstream pimping I've done)
