Amd Athlon 64 Fx

Recommended Posts

Don't get me wrong with this CPU you probably won't need to overclock it its already mad fast. Well I dunno cause I can't afford one or the boards to put them in, but I was just wondering if anyone knows how these puppies are with overclocking? Do we have another 2500 barton core on our hands or the 1900 palamino?

the athlon fx is the opteron 1xx with a new name (no smp enabled). I'm picking one up later on today, so I should be able to tell you for sure how it OC's.

currently I'd guess that it's still going to be a poor oc'n chip just like the opteron 244 I have. have worked my behind off to squeeze 400mhz extra out of it

These chips won't overclock well simply because of the on-die memory controller. AMD doesn't want us to overclock, so they give us the min. of a memroy controller.

However, if you override that memory controller and use the mobo's...you never know what could happen. Plus, chips normally dont clock well in there first steppings, let alone overclock. Remeber the first batch of P4s that were clocked at 1.5 GHz? Now we have 3.2 after a year or so.
