Guest Darien Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 well... like the title says, I'm in need of a water block for the SLI-DR non-expert chipset... those who have it know there is next to NO room for one... AND the chipset gets HOT and HELL... what's more is I'm looking for one that has 1/4 fittings to match the rest of my H20 cooling setup my chipset temps are around 55C load and I've already removed the chipset and put on some AS5... didn't help 1 bit I might add... I've been looking at the Koolance GPU 180 H06 cooler... H = Horizontal and the Koolance GPU 180 V06 cooler... V = verticle I believe koolance recommends the CHC A05, but it doesn't look at low profile as the others, looks like it may not fit and it has only 30W cooling... is that enough? I would like to hear from anyone who has successfully mounted a water block on the SLI-DR NON-expert and also anyone that has had one of the aforementioned blocks TIA
DragonTattooz Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I'm curious as well. My chipset just gets to hot for my comfort level. I just bought one of the copper coolers that Angry, or RGone, or one of those guys is recommending. If that doesn't cool it down to the 30's, I'm gonna go with a waterblock I think. I was looking at one the other day that someone linked to on the OC Forums, but it ended up having 1/4" fittings. I also have a 1/2" system so that obviously isn't gonna work. I meant 1/4' Internal diameter fittings... the outside is probably close to 1/2 though. the 2 standard sizes are 3/8 ED (small) and 1/4 ID (big) I need the 1/4' fittings
olympic Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I used the GPU-180-H06, it fits OK under my 7800GTX but I had to use the non-adjustable bracket and different mounting screws. pic #1 Pic #2 The V06 doesn't look like it would work. The A05 might work but may be a touch too tall. When I had a single core CPU this block would keep my chipset in the mid-low 30's C. With my dual core it's 38-40C @ full load. DragonTattooz Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Those are the pics I saw the other day that I was referring to. Did you post those over at the OC Forums?
Guest Darien Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Thx olympic OH one more thing... I running 2 x 7800GTX in SLi... is that H06 small enough to fit under both cards?
olympic Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Those are the pics I saw the other day that I was referring to. Did you post those over at the OC Forums? No I havn't but it's possible someone else linked to them. The block should fit under dual 7800GTX's no problem. Just install the mounting screws with the nuts on the back of the MB and use zip ties for hose clamps for maximum clearance.

DragonTattooz Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I received the copper chipset cooler today. I think I ordered it 2 days ago and it had to go from CA to VA. It looks to be good quality. The mounting surface has a nice, shiny surface with a piece of protective plastic stuck to it. It is also very heavy solid copper. I haven't installed it yet, so it is yet to be determined how well it will perform.
