Guest Darien Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 HI there... I'm looking for help here with my new A64 Rig... I've read the stickied posts but am still very new to A64 Overclocking... I've got the OC in my sig stable except for Prime95 which fails with 1 minute usually... sometime it will go for a few minutes but always fails quickly... It has passed memtest86+ for over 25 loops of test #5 and all tests at least once 32M super PI, OCCT, 3dMark01 - 03 - 05, AquaMark 3 and S&M CPU short test at 100% load. It does fail S&M Memory Test on memory test #3... but only test #3 and again, fails Prime in a few minutes... there are so many options in the bios I don't know WTH to do... I've read through the stickies but would really appreciate some input from anyone who's had similar problems. EDIT: the following are my BIOS settings TIA
Voltes-5 Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Hey dude, why dont you post the BIOS settings, that way we could all take a look at it and give you some suggestions that worked for us individually that may work for you. As far as I know, Prime95 tests the system as a whole for stability, thats why it is recommended that it is run for at least 8hrs. Some of our members are not satisfied untill they ran 24 hrs Prime and no errors. It can be a lot of things and at the same time it could be just a couple of settings missed. Voltes-5 Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 You should run a full test on the memtest for at least 8 hrs on DDR630. I have seen a review with those rams at DDR640 with tighter timings and hopefully yours will pass with flying colors. Although, like cpu's, rams also behave differently even if you have the same sticks on a set. Why dont you set your LDT to X3 instead of auto, I would also use the VID Control X VID Special Control to set vcore. I also assume that you have tested the cpu by taking the ram out of the equation. madu Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Why dont you disable CPC and run them on 2T and see if they'd make a difference.. Since you have passed all other tests and it seems that the memory is the one giving the problem.. How does the prime fail..? does it give the rounding error? Also did you run in single-channel with one stick and check if you still get the problem..

LDT x3.. good suggestion I'll try it.. thx VID control x VID special to set vcore.... why??? what's the difference? thx for the help

A standard step in ruling out problems... something I always do, yet for some reason didn't think to do it this time??? thx for reminding me, I'll give it a try... maybe both sticks will pass in single channel? sometimes it just the boost from DC that causes problems... Voltes-5 Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 VID Control / VID Special adjusts the vcore at a smaller increment, better control over the vcore. Its just something that works for me and got better OC results when using the two instead of Auto.
mfurse Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I've got a similar problem, wither at stock or OC'd my machine won't complete 2x Prime95 for more than 4 hours BUT it is rock solid in 3DMark 01/03/05/06 on repeat for 8 hours, occtx2 on torture, superpi 32mb, video editting, transcoding using divx, xvid, fear for 4+ hours, HL2 for 6hrs+....etc etc etc Annoying as hell, was thinking PSU but I have got 29A on the 12V rails and it is fully stable in use just the damned 2x Prime95! PL4YD34D Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 i would say a voltage bump might be required. both to vcore an vdimm. try one at a time
Guest Darien Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 i would say a voltage bump might be required. both to vcore an vdimm. try one at a time more than 2.9v on my TCCD plat. 4800 elites.... no thank you. I just ran them overnight on memtest86+ all tests, 8 hours 25 passes all tests NO errors. as for the vcore, first thing I tried... it's usually core 0 that fails, I'm starting to think I got a bad core pretty damn pathetic I might add, that a core would fail at 2.5GHz
