problem with CPU multi

Recommended Posts

I'm really stumped by this so I'm hoping someone has an answer. My system consists of a DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D, A64 San Diego 3700+, G.Skill 2GB HZ + fan above it, Antec SP-500, and Scythe Mine + 120mm fan. I recently spent a lot of time working at a stable overclock. I got it prime stable @ 2750 with 250x11 and some tight timings with my memory. However, it needed a lot of voltage to get there (1.475 x 113%) and I didn't like my load temps at around 50C. So I was going to drop it to 2700. I spent the day finding stable timings for my memory at 270, and then tried to boot with a 10x multiplier. I cannot get it to boot into Windows for my life. I put my memory on a divider and put the timings at auto, put the LDT multi at 3x, and tried upping the voltage as high as I needed at 2750. No use. Is there any explanation for why this won't work? Thanks.

You could try upping the chipset and ldt voltage

you could also try playing with the pci-e frequency

but really the issue I see is you can just plug in settings and have them magically work

everytime I try a new multi I start from stock with that multi and then work my way back up

I suggest you do the same

and what timings are you running at 270?

and what did you use to test your memory?

if it was memtest then dont rely on it

memtest hardly puts the stress on memory that an OS environment does

really the best quick test for memory is super pi 32m

I did try upping the LDT and chipset, but only .1V apiece. Perhaps I'll try more. I did use memtest to sort out the timings, but like I said, I tried booting into 270x10 with my ram on a divider and with everything set to auto. I also loosened the core timings manually while still on the divider. I guess I don't understand the multiplier. I already know for a fact that 2700 is below my max, so I just don't get why I can't boot. Thanks for the input.

I had that problem with several different CPU's. 9x and 11x would work fine but 10x would not overclock well at all. Would work fine @ stock though. It's just a quirk in the CPU that you may have to live with. You wont see a real-world performance difference between 245x11 and 270x10 anyways.

Alright. I guess I'll try putting it at 245 and I'll just have the mess with my timings again to get them nice. The only reason I was going for 270x10 is because it made more sense for my memory to be there and get timings that suit it. Oh well.
