ClayMeow Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Wow, I didnt know that, so basically making the HOSTS file "read-only" tells it not to write website addresses to it? hmm...that's a good question, i really don't know since i don't have it as read-only, but i would assume you are correct. Up until today (reading this post), i didn't even know an external program/spyware/etc could write to the hosts file. I must say, though, that whoever made the spyware to do that is pretty clever. I mean, imagine if everytime you tried to go to www.yahoo.com, it took you to a porn site instead. That would piss off a lot of people.
