BSOD in windows

Recommended Posts

Been sailing along with this new system, but occasionally i get a bsod, it's pretty weird though, it happens in games (and has happened once just on desktop doing nothing), this one in particular comes from playing "Condemned-Criminal Origins", occurs at different times in the game, never the same place twice, i had it do it one or twice in Splinter Cell 3 as well, but its annoying me now...

I've also had a few "machine exception" BSOD's, but i havent got a picture of those yet, waiting for it to happen again...

I played through Morrowwind-Oblivion with no trouble at all, as well as a few other games...

It's only annoying me because i want to use this machine for long 3d renders to .avi, but don't want to leave the machine running for a few days then come back to see a non finished render and a blue screen ;)

Not sure what other info to provide on this problem, heres a couple of screenshots of the exact error and my temps (yeah i know the temp probe is supposed to be flaky)

Nothing is overclocked on this system, all at default settings in bios...

Stock Bios (should i update it?)

Memtest for 4 hours shows no errors

Prime95 stable for 8 hours (then i stopped it)

Any help appreciated

yes, i believe i am using the nvidia ide drivers.

so.. have u tried running without them?

the way the documentation reads, it will be slower than with them, but how much slower?

i've tried running this system in raid as well, and still get the same problems

googling around a bit reveals alot of people get the same error across alot of different board manufacturers, so, it might just be an nvidia driver issue after all...

heh, and to think i only went nvidia because i couldnt get a venus with ati crossfire ;)

(im an ati guy for years now, until this build)

i will try removing the ide driver and see what it does, got this system imaged, so it isnt a problem to try it out i guess!

i'll let ya know what happens...

yep, all power connectors are in, the vid card doesnt have a plug on it, but the one next to the slot is plugged in.

yeah i learned that the nv firewall stops the internet functioning at all pretty fast ;)

i just tried removing the nvidia ide driver, and it makes no difference at all.

im going to see if i can get hold of a different vid card and memory just to be 100 percent sure it isnt either of those.

should i update the bios? (i am loathe to do it until i have to!)

i wish the temp probe worked properly, cause as my error appears in games mainly, it would be good to see what temp the chipset is at b4 it bsods.....

funnily enough, i only got the option to install the nvidia firewall with the drivers that came on the dfi disk...

the nforce set i downloaded from nvidia (latest version) didnt have it at all , (or at least i didnt see it)

Weird how dfi could ship the venus boards with a set of drivers that cause the internet connection to corrupt large(ish) downloads heh, i woulda thought that would have come up in the testing phase ;)

thanx for the help sofar, i'm going to try a different graphics card! (and ram)

EDIT : FIXED!

I feel really stupid for not trying this earlier, but i am an ati guy from way back, so i was not familiar with the whole reference drivers VS oem drivers side of things...

(never had a problem with any oem card and the ati catalysts)

The problem seems to have been fixed by going to leadteks site and grabbing THEIR drivers for this card, have'nt had a single bsod since i replaced the latest nvidia ones with them.

so to clarify, using the nforce drivers for sw ide,sm bus and ethernet and using the oem leadtek drivers for the vid card has seemed to fix the problems (in the game that gave me grief anyway), some more rigorous testing is going ot be done by me, but will take a while as i'll have to test a wide variety of new games and torture test it properly ;)
